Knox Christian School is a private school that receives money from parents and supporters in order to meet its budget.
1. Costs
Tuition
Since every family's situation in terms of the number and grade level of children attending varies greatly, parents are asked to contact the financial administrator in order to receive a family-specific cost. Further recommendation as to financial assistance will be recommended if applicable.
Enrolment Fee
In order to contribute to the ongoing capital expenditures, all new families must pay a $1,000 enrolment fee by August 1 of the beginning school year. All families transferring from schools who are members of the Association of Christian Schools International, Christian Schools International, and Christian Schools Canada are exempted from this fee. In addition, any previously donated amounts to Bowmanville District Christian School Society are subtracted from the $1,000 fee.
2. Financial Help
Available Grants
Grants are available at Knox Christian School for assistance with tuition payment. Our finance committee is in the process of reviewing and restructuring our present policies and procedures. Parents are encouraged to contact the financial administrator.
Charitable Donation
Each year the business administrator calculates a cost-per-pupil. The money paid to the school beyond that amount is classified as a charitable donation. Income tax receipts are issued by the business administrator before the end of February the following calendar year.
3. The End Result
The tuition paid by families is not the final cost of education to the parents. In all cases, the amount is lower. The specific amount would depend on the number of children, the amount paid, and the tax rate for each family. Below you will find an example of the difference the deductions can make.
One family pays $9,580 per year tuition for their one child in grade one.
Tax benefit of charitable receipt = $7,580 x 40% = $3,032
After tax cost of tuition = $9,580 - $3,032 = $6,548
Each inquiring family will need to talk to their accountant or our business administrator about their own situation in terms of possible tax deductions.
* = to be determined each school year
