Greetings from Knox Christian School! This letter is designed to give you some specific feedback about the recent Canadian Tests of Basic Skills (CTBS) taken by our students in grades 3-8. Every other year, our students in those grades are given standardized tests to have our school investigate curricular areas that may need attention and highlight the areas in which our curriculum serves our students well.
It must be noted, however, that these tests only give us input into the area of the curriculum that is known as "basic skills." Below you will find specific areas that are tested and the corresponding results of our various grade levels. The "basic skills" that are tested are:
Vocabulary Reading Spelling Capitals Punctuation Usage and expression Math concepts
Math estimation Math probability Math data Math computation Science Reference material Maps and diagrams
Besides the specific data from each student, we are also given a summary of each of the grade levels and their overall performance. Each grade level has been given an "overall score." The "score" indicates a percentile that states Knox’s grade position as compared to 100 similar grades who wrote the test. The sample of schools includes public, separate, and private schools across Canada.

We are pleased that our students scored well on their basic skills. We congratulate them and the many parents and teachers who have given them the support necessary to perform so well!
As is the case with all standardized test results, we must caution everyone that these scores only represent part of the picture. The main reason for our existence as a Christian school is to help our students develop a Christian mind. We certainly want our students to analyse, discern, and question. Another item of caution is that our students wrote these tests on a specific day at a specific time in their lives. We can only hope that it is a true representative sample of a "good day" of all our students.
